Society Yoga

One Soul. One Society

JOURNAL NO. 001 — YOU DON’T HAVE TO WANT TO TEACH.

What teacher training really means at SOCIETY.

There’s something that happens when people hear the words teacher training.

They immediately decide whether or not they belong.

I could never teach a room full of people.

I’m not advanced enough.

I can’t do a handstand.

I just started practicing.

I love yoga, but I don’t want to become a yoga teacher.

Good.

Because you don’t have to want to teach.

Teacher training has never been only about creating teachers. At least, we don’t believe it should be.

At SOCIETY, we believe the practice is bigger than the poses. And learning to teach it begins long before you ever stand at the front of a room.

It begins with learning to pay attention.

To your body. Your patterns. Your reactions. Your breath. The stories you tell yourself. The places you resist. The places you hold on. The places you are ready to let go.

It asks you to become curious about yourself.

And then it asks you to become curious about everyone else.

THE PERSON WHO ENTERS WON'T BE THE PERSON WHO

LEAVES.

Yes, we will study yoga.

We will study anatomy, philosophy, sequencing, cueing, movement, breath, teaching methodology, and the history behind the practice.

You will practice teaching.

You will learn how to walk into a room and lead it.

You will learn how to use your voice.

But somewhere along the way, something else happens.

You begin to understand why you move the way you move.

Why you think the way you think.

Why this practice has continued calling you back.

You begin finding your own voice instead of borrowing someone else’s.

You become more comfortable being seen.

You learn how to hold space for another human without needing to fix them.

And sometimes, you realize you are capable of something you never came there intending to do.

That is teacher training.

WE DON'T WANT TO CREATE COPIES OF OURSELVES.

SOCIETY has a voice.

We have a way we teach, a way we move, a way we hold a room, and a way we believe people should feel when they walk through our doors.

But SOCIETY Education is not about teaching you to become us.

It's about giving you the foundation, knowledge, tools, experience, and confidence to uncover you.

We don't need twenty teachers who sound the same.

We want humans who understand what they're teaching, believe in what they're saying, and have the courage to say it in their own way.

Because the most powerful teachers aren't performing.

They're connected.

AND MAYBE YOU DO WANT TO TEACH.

Maybe you've been standing somewhere in the back of the room thinking about it for years.

Maybe you've caught yourself imagining your own playlist.

Maybe you already know the sequence you would teach.

Maybe there is a tiny voice inside you saying, I think I could do this.

Listen to it.

We need teachers.

We need leaders.

We need people willing to stand in front of another human and remind them what they're capable of.

And as SOCIETY continues to grow—through yoga, movement, education, and whatever comes next—we want to grow the people who will carry that work forward with us.

But maybe you finish this training and never teach a single class.

It still counts.

Because becoming a teacher and becoming someone who teaches are not necessarily the same thing.

Sometimes the greatest thing you learn to lead is yourself.

THIS IS SOCIETY EDUCATION.

Our next 200-hour Yoga Teacher Training will bring together in-person connection with online learning, creating space for people both inside our immediate SOCIETY community and beyond it.

There will be work.

There will be practice.

There will be uncomfortable moments.

There will probably be tears.

There will absolutely be laughter.

There will be people who arrive certain they want to teach.

There will be people who arrive certain they don't.

And there will be people who simply know that something inside them is asking for more.

You don't need to know exactly where this takes you.

You just need to be willing to begin.
